Privacy Policy
How Need a Calc handles account, calculator, and usage data.
Last updated: 2026-08-17
Overview
Need a Calc lets people create, test, publish, and use deterministic online calculators. This policy explains what information we process when you use the builder, save a calculator, publish a link, or use a public calculator.
Information We Process
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- Account information — Your name, email address, authentication records, and account settings when you sign up or sign in.
- Creator content — Calculator prompts, clarification replies, Code Capsule versions, titles, descriptions, formulas, assumptions, tests, and publication settings that you submit or approve.
- Service events — Limited events such as calculator generation, save, publish, share-link opening, and successful public verification.
- Technical information — Browser, device, request, security, and error information needed to operate, protect, and troubleshoot the service.
- Cookies and local storage — Session, locale, theme, consent, and other settings needed for the features you choose to use.
AI Processing
When you ask Need a Calc to create or revise a calculator, the prompt and relevant calculator context are sent to the AI provider configured for the service. The provider is asked to produce bounded Code Capsule source files for isolated build and verification. Review your content before sending it and do not include secrets or sensitive personal information that is unnecessary for the calculation.
Public Calculator Privacy
Visitors can use published calculators without creating an account. Calculations run in the browser and are then re-run by the service to verify that the published version produced the same result.
For verification, Need a Calc records a result fingerprint and limited event metadata. It does not persist the visitor's raw calculator inputs or raw outputs in the product analytics event. Calculator creators should avoid asking visitors for sensitive personal information unless it is necessary, lawful, and clearly disclosed.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide authentication, calculator creation, version history, publishing, sharing, and support.
- Run and improve the deterministic calculator runtime and AI-assisted builder.
- Detect abuse, investigate errors, secure accounts, and maintain availability.
- Measure whether calculators are generated, published, opened, and successfully used.
- Meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell personal information. We may share the minimum information needed with infrastructure, database, authentication, email, analytics, support, and AI service providers that help operate Need a Calc. We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect users, the service, or the public.
Retention and Security
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain version and publication records, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and prevent abuse. We use access controls, encryption in transit, secret management, and restricted data collection. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices and Rights
You may update your account information and manage your calculators from the service. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, export, object to processing of, or request deletion of personal information. Some records may be retained where required for security, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.
Children
Need a Calc is not directed to children who are not old enough to consent to online services in their jurisdiction. Do not submit a child's personal information without appropriate authority.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated through the service when appropriate.
